Many Luton Mosques have received a joint letter from our local MPs, Sarah Owen and Rachel Hopkins, in response to concerns raised by constituents on the catastrophic situation in Palestine.
The situation in Gaza has now taken a dire turn. Having previously cut of water, electricity and humanitarian aid, the Israeli army has this evening also shutdown all telecommunications in the region, intensified its bombing campaign, and warned that it will expand ground operations. There is no other way to describe this than genocide. Despite the gravity of the situation, it is with deep disappointment that we inform you that both MPs have failed to join the growing number of their parliamentary colleagues in calling for an immediate ceasefire.
We urge both MPs to raise their voices and demand a full, immediate and lasting ceasefire to prevent further loss of innocent Palestinian lives and allows essential humanitarian aid to reach those who are in desperate need.
Tonight the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the “protection of civilians and upholding legal and humanitarian obligations”, supported by 120 nations. We urge our MPs to stand with the growing global consensus in favour of immediate ceasfire.
The actions of our elected representatives during this crucial time will not be forgotten by our community.
