Luton Mosques are working closely with Luton and Dunstable hospital to ensure that we can best support them to care for those in need. There are a number of ways you can help the hospital, including:

Donation

  • Donate online donation via the L&D Hospital Medical Workforce-COVID-19 Just Giving page here
  • Donate toiletry items, soaps, tooth paste, tooth brushes,  deodorant, brushes etc for staff who need to isolate away from their families or prepackaged foods (chocolate, cakes, crisps, soft drinks etc.) to support the staff. These items can be dropped off between 10am – 12pm and left outside Phoenix house (On calnwood road, opposite disabled car park pay station)

Staff support

  • Hotel accommodation for additional staff should be emailed to fundraising@ldh.nhs.uk
  • If local shops are able to guarantee provision items for NHS staff, please email their details, what they can guarantee and quantities to fundraising@ldh.nhs.uk

Ex Nurses / Doctors and health workers

There has been a large push on asking nurses, doctors and healthworkers to join the hospital. If you know anyone in this category who would like to work with the hospital during the crisis, please ask them to email incidentworkforce@ldh.nhs.uk

Volunteering

60% of our volunteers have needed to step back while the crisis unfolds due to being in high risk categories. The hospital are currently supporting our current volunteers to continue where possible and working externally with community organisations. If people want to volunteer, then they need to email volunteering@ldh.nhs.uk.

Current  visitor restrictions

The hospital have had to take the difficult decision to introduce further visiting restrictions to protect the patients and the community. Visitors are now restricted to those visiting end of life patients, paediatric patients (one parent per time unless child very unwell) and maternity patients (one birthing partner allowed).

We have set up an Inpatient Next of Kin helpline for those wanting information on their loved ones. It operates from 8am to 8pm. There will be a dedicated phone number but in the meantime family members are asked to ring switchboard and ask to be put through to x8462/8463. We are asking families to nominate one person to call the helpline.
