Let the care team guide you.
The NHS explains that people may become more sleepy, eat or drink less, or experience changes in breathing as they approach the end of life. Everyone’s experience is different. Ask the team caring for the person about changes you notice and how to support their comfort.
The NHS guide below explains common changes and the support that may help. For distress or new symptoms, contact the healthcare professionals responsible for their care.
Faith and reassurance.
Our original guide encourages gentle reassurance, supplication and remembrance of Allah. Speak with the person and their family about the spiritual support they would welcome. Your mosque or a chaplain can help with questions about religious practice.
Keep the person’s comfort and wishes at the centre of visits and conversations. Coordinate any practical or physical assistance with their care team.
