Dear Bishop Angaelos,

We are writing to express our deep sadness at the senseless loss of lives in a terrorist attack
which took place this weekend at a Coptic Orthodox chapel, adjacent to St Mark’s Cathedral in
Cairo. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this
difficult time.

We wish to extend our condolences to the Coptic Orthodox Christian community and hope
that you will share our letter with your congregations. Please know that we share your pain.
This is a cowardly and barbaric attack on humanity and has touched the hearts of us all.

This tragedy reminds us once again of the efforts of some to cause divisions and drive our
communities apart. We remain committed to ensuring that this does not happen. We choose
the power of prayer and God’s love to overcome their hate. We stand in solidarity with our
friends and neighbours, of all faiths and none, and pray for justice and peace.

Yours Truly,

Luton Sunni Council of Mosques
