Following deep upset and concern within the community about the intensified violence and indiscriminate killing in Palestine, representatives from Luton’s mosques met on Wednesday 18th October with Members of Parliament, Sarah Owen and Rachel Hopkins, alongside the Leader of the Council, Hazel Simmons.

They were pressed by all in attendance to raise their voices against Kier Starmer’s statement that “Israel has the right” to withhold power and water from Palestinians. This is a direct violation against international law and protection of basic human rights. Both Luton MPs were unwilling to comment on Kier Starmer’s statement, stating they would make a public statement to clarify their position in the coming days.
